PROGRAMMING
2012-2013 SEASON
BROCHURE
West Windsor Arts Council offers programming both at the arts
center and at venues throughout the township. Art exhibits, classes and
workshops, live performances, film and poetry events, and programs for
teens, including open-mike nights, are held at the arts center. Our
audiences come from all over the tri-state area but most participants in
classes and workshops are from Central New Jersey and Bucks County,
PA. We serve multiple age groups, diverse cultures and students with
special needs.
Art Exhibits in the Gallery
WWAC offers six exhibits a year, with a focus on high quality,
multicultural and diverse themes to showcase emerging as well as
established artists from the region. The goal is to establish WWAC as a
center for vibrant cultural and artistic interaction and expression and to
enhance programming.
Live Performances
Music, theater and dance for all tastes are offered on our
stage with our high quality sound system and lighting. Professional
performers are selected by our programming committee.
Classes and Workshops
Classes and workshops are offered for all ages and abilities in
dance, acting, visual arts, writing, comedy and more in the Florence Bell
Hillier Studio.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE WEST WINDSOR ARTS COUNCIL
The West Windsor Arts Council began in the fall of 2002 when
West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh and interested community members
developed a plan to utilize the historic Princeton Junction Firehouse as
an arts center. The Mayor’s Art Center Formation Task Force
established the West Windsor Arts Council with a mission to establish an
arts center at the old firehouse and provide community arts programming
throughout West Windsor. Starting in early 2003, the volunteer group began
to produce arts programs at various venues throughout West Windsor. A
board of directors was created to oversee development of the new arts
council.
In May 2003, the West Windsor Township Council, in response to
a presentation and proposal from the WWAC board, voted unanimously to
accept a resolution to establish a new arts center in the old firehouse,
with management provided by WWAC. With the Township Council’s
resolution as an official endorsement of the WWAC plans, the WWAC board
filed for non-profit status and in January 2004 received the IRS’s
determination letter declaring the West Windsor Arts Council a 501 (c) (3)
tax exempt organization. The West Windsor Arts Center opened its
doors Sept. 25, 2010, and offers live performances, art exhibits, classes
and workshops to the greater West Windsor community.
PARTNERSHIPS AND
COLLABORATIONS
Since we were established, we have been able to collaborate
with a variety of West Windsor-based groups. We have worked with the
Gallery at Mercer Community College for the Mercer County Juried
Exhibition. We cooperate with the West Windsor Library, the Friends of the
Library and the African-American Parent Support Group. We collaborate with
several West Windsor-based arts and cultural groups including Opera New
Jersey, West Windsor Historical Society and Bravura Philharmonic
Orchestra. And, finally, we have partnered with the West Windsor
Community Farmers’ Market, where we regularly arrange for art shows,
musical performances, and interactive art events as well as present
information on the Arts Council to the public while the market is in
session from May through October.
